Hidden Landscapes, Kangaroo Island 2018
Collaboration with James Tylor
James Tylor and Laura Wills have been collaborating on new works that merge their own experiences of Australian colonial history. The Forgotten Wars 1 and 2 are a series of drawings on photographic prints. They investigate the idea of mapping, conflict and colonialism. Hidden Landscape, Kangaroo Island, and Clouded Landscape, Kangeroo Island are subsequent work that explores the History of Kangaroo Island particularly the early sealers and Aboriginal Tasmanian women who lived there before European white settlement. This collaborative project between an Indigenous and a Non-Indigenous Australian artist helps to find a way to decolonise the telling of stories about Australian frontier history in mainstream society in Australia.
